Mawson Lakes Park Way Child Care Centre is guided by the National Quality Standards and the Early Years Learning Framework. We use the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) when planning our developmentally appropriate programs. The EYLF is a national curriculum framework which is used to support educators to achieve the best developmental outcomes for children. It has a strong emphasis on play based learning and defines it as “a context for learning through which children organise and make sense of their social worlds, as they engage actively with people, objects and representations” As children participate in everyday life, they develop interests and construct their identities and understandings of the world. A play-based approach involves both child-initiated and educator supported learning. The educator encourages children’s learning and inquiry through interactions that aim to stretch their thinking. There are many benefits of play-based learning including the development of intellectual skills, thinking and motivation, encourages language skills and literacy skills, develops social and emotional skills and fosters creativity and imagination.
Educators plan individual programs for every child, using information collected from various forms of observation and information shared by families. Each child has their own learning portfolio which holds this collection of their learning. The Portfolio is available for each child and their family to view at any time.
